Washers and dryers from 20 to 60 pounds
Every washer at Williamson Road Laundromat is a front-loader. The smallest holds 20 pounds, the largest holds 60, and most of them are 30 pounds or bigger.
Which washer fits your load
Laundromat machines are rated by the pounds of dry laundry they hold. A washer at home holds about 10 pounds. So a 20-pound machine is roughly two home loads, and a 60-pound machine is roughly six.

Dryers that keep up with the washers
Dryers here run from 20 pounds up to 80. The number of dryers is set against the washers on purpose, so what comes out of the wash has somewhere to go. Waiting with a cart of wet laundry for a dryer to open is the usual bottleneck at a laundromat, and the mix here is built to avoid it.
Why the machines are this size
Plenty of people who come here have a washer at home. They come because six loads at once takes about an hour, and one load a night takes all week. The store is set up for people who want the whole week done in one trip. The three 20-pound stacked units along one wall are there for the small loads.
Machines get fixed when they break
A lot of laundromats wait until several machines are down before calling a technician, because each service call costs a trip. That is why you see rows of out-of-order signs. Here a machine gets repaired when it breaks. If one does fail and takes your money, you get it back, satisfaction guaranteed.
